On my 5th semester I had a pleasure to taste the academic life at University of Zagreb during one, whole semester! As I could choose the subjects that interest me, I took courses connected with Robot Operating System, information processing, neural networks, numerical computations and automatic control theory. We were taught about PID controller, wavelet analysis, Hidden Markov Models, IPC algorithm, PCA and deep neural networks. Apart from various ROS projects (such as turtlesim turtle run, SLAM or turtlesim lawnmowing, in both C++ and Python), I took part in two bigger challenges. The first one aimed at creating a convolutional neural network for emotion recognition. The outcome of this group project was a report written in a IEEE paper style. The second one was a part of an Engineering Project course. I was supposed to create a ROS-Android interface for a Turtlebot3 teleopeartion with UDP communication. After successful tests on a real robot, I was offered an opportunity to write a conference paper for MIPRO Conference, which was published in October 2021. The open-source code is available on Github for Android app and the ROS controller pipeline.
